I believe this is my third review for Mr. Leston and i still need to read ALL his material and then sit and wait for what he does next :O) So i am not an author and i always wonder if my reviews are helpful as all i usually do is review on what i think is a 5 star book. This book is part of the Professor David Manning Archeological Mystery series. I did not care for the plot. A world famous archeologist renowned for finding long lost treasures from antiquity is on the case in search of a treasure of Alexander the Great rumored to be somewhere in Egypt. The story is very simplistic, formulaic and contrived. And the dialogue is stilted. The addition of a corrupt and evil Egyptian general out to steal the treasure for himself after Manning finds it did not make it any more appealing. The only things I liked about it were the historical flashbacks and that it appears to be historically correct. Two Stars.

Great story to round up the series.
I generally like this series, but this book is just OK. I enjoyed the overall plot and historical aspects, but the dialogue is stilted and the editing is terrible. I won't stop reading the Manning series, but I hope things improve a bit.
I've now read all four books by Daniel Leston in this series. This book is the fourth. Once I read book one I couldn't stop until all were read. That tells you how enjoyable they were!
One of the finest novels based upon historical fact I have ever read. This is how history should be taught today!
The author has brought to life the day to day existence of ancient Egypt in a way no history book could... What a Series!
I read all five books by this author a few years ago and found them all truly interesting. I did read this book at that time, too. I ran onto it again recently and decided to read and enjoy it all over again!
If you like history and/or archeology, Leston's books are for you, and everyone else, LOL!
